Scott Nichol is an information technology consultant working in the Philadelphia area. His initial exposure to computers was as an experimental elementary particle physicist, designing circuit boards and microcode for data collection at national and international laboratories. He has been active in the commercial computer industry since 1984, and current clients range from entrepreneurial technology shops to Fortune 1000 corporations. The roles he has played on various projects include system architect, data architect, technical lead, software engineer, system analyst and project manager.

Scott's emphasis is on distributed computing, particularly on the server side, including Internet and RDBMS technologies. Covering multiple industries, including retail, financial services, vertical market software, manufacturing and the public sector, the applications he has worked on include customer relationship management (CRM), point-of-sale (POS), data warehouse, human resource, and contact management.

Scott continuously mixes short assignments (days to weeks) with longer ones (months). Among the types of engagements he has had are:

  • New system specification and development
  • Enhancement of existing application systems
  • Application system reviews
  • System performance troubleshooting
  • Database performance troubleshooting
  • System behavior troubleshooting (debugging)
